Healthcare Consumers: Partners in Quality Improvement
“Patient engagement is the blockbuster drug of the century.” – Dr. Farzad Mostashari, former head of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, from Patient Engagement: Medicine’s New “Blockbuster Drug”
As a Medicare consumer, family member and/or caregiver, this section of our Web site is a source of information you can use to improve or maintain your health. We are building a collection of resources on a variety of health topics.
We aspire to make healthcare in our region the best in the nation. To do so, we need your help! We want to assist you in becoming more confident about making healthcare decisions and participating more fully in your health care. In addition, it is extremely important to have the consumer ‘voice’ as we are making decisions about care given. We are hosting the Great Plains Learning and Action Network as a way to share information, learn from one another and offer education and resources.
Partnering with Individuals and Family Members: Advisory Councils
We are also in the process of establishing Patient and Family Member Advisory Councils in each of our four states as a partnership to help guide our efforts, offer input on our approaches and to assist with message development and outreach. Each state is at different phases with setting up and facilitating it’s Council. However, we strongly believe this partnership will provide opportunities for improving the health and healthcare of individuals through a better understanding of the ‘consumer’ perspective.
Council members will include consumers, family members and healthcare professionals. We will update Council members on our efforts, identify ways to improve and enhance our efforts through better understanding. Also, we will be looking for methods and formats to communicate with and reach out to the Medicare community.
If you or someone you know may be interested in participating, please let us know. We would be happy to discuss expectations, goals and outline steps for getting started.

Learning and Action Network
We invite you to join the Great Plains Learning and Action Network (LAN). All LAN partners will be invited to attend educational sessions on a variety of topics, have opportunities to learn from peers throughout the state and region and have access to an abundance of resources and tools. The LAN is a great opportunity to get connected and demonstrate your commitment to quality improvement.
As of August 1, 2014, we will no longer provide case review services for Medicare beneficiaries within the region. Beginning August 1, 2014, healthcare providers and Medicare consumers (within our four state region) must contact KEPRO for all appeal requests and quality of care concerns:
