As part of the Center for Immunization Research and Education’s new monthly webinar series, Boost Your Knowledge: Empowering Providers to Make Confident Vaccine Recommendations, Dr. Paul Carson will provide an overview of their vaccine safety surveillance systems and discuss:

  1. How safety is prioritized in the vaccine development and approval process;
  2. Differences between vaccine safety surveillance systems in the U.S. and how they collaborate to assess potential safety signals;
  3. Historical examples of how vaccine surveillance systems have successfully identified and responded to safety concerns.

Speaker: Paul Carson, MD, FACP, is an infectious disease physician with over 25 years of clinical experience. He is currently an Emeritus Professor of Practice at the North Dakota State University Department of Public Health, where he previously served as the Medical Director for the Center for Immunization Research and Education (CIRE). He is also a Professor at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He has held many roles within Sanford Health, including Chair of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Director of Clinical Research, and Chief Quality Officer.
