The Webinar presenter, Kaitlyn Ashley, is the Statewide Tobacco Cessation Coordinator for the South Dakota Department of Health’s Tobacco Control Program. Ashley is a contractor through Black Hills Special Services and is based out of Sioux Falls, SD. She has a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology and Anthropology from the University of South Dakota.

Objectives:

As a result of attending, participants will have a better understanding of:

  • Tobacco use rates among those with behavioral health conditions
  • Current research on tobacco use and substance use disorders
  • How to implement the AAR model* for effective tobacco cessation intervention
  • How the South Dakota QuitLine works, what it includes and other available cessation resources

*The AAR model consists of: (A) asking about tobacco use status (A) advising all tobacco users to quit and (R) referring tobacco users to evidence-based tobacco treatment, including behavioral counseling and pharmacotherapy.
