Think Cultural Health has recently announced an all-new e-learning program for nurses on Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS). CLAS in Nursing aims to equip nurses with essential skills to deliver equitable, respectful, patient-centered care.

Why is CLAS in nursing important? Understanding, respecting, and responding to patients’ needs and preferences helps nurses ensure the highest quality of care for all patients. As the largest profession in the healthcare workforce, nurses are uniquely positioned to improve patient experiences and outcomes, and CLAS is a vital strategy for doing so.

CLAS in Nursing offers four free continuing nursing education credits. The program presents strategies for improving self-awareness, combating implicit bias, practicing cultural competency and cultural humility, and communicating effectively. Nursing students and other professionals may earn a certificate of completion. The program consists of four courses with engaging case studies and opportunities for self-reflection. It also offers a Resource Library with additional information and tools.

All nurses and nursing students are invited to join in this mission to advance health equity through the provision of CLAS. Enroll in CLAS in Nursing today.

CLAS IconThe National CLAS Standards are intended to advance health equity, improve quality, and help eliminate health care disparities by providing a blueprint for health and health care organizations to implement culturally and linguistically appropriate services.

Visit our Web site for information and resources related to CLAS. We have also developed a CLAS Playbook to help with understanding and implementation of the 15 national CLAS Standards and a CLAS Assessment (following the OMH format) for organizations in the Dakotas to use to measure where they are in this journey, identify needs and develop an improvement plan to address the basic elements of the National CLAS Standards.
