The Great Plains QIN is hosting a virtual teach-back training for healthcare professionals who support patients and families throughout the care continuum. Though this training will have a primary care focus, teach-back as a communication technique is applicable to any and all care settings. This session will be interactive, feature a ‘live demonstration’, provide teach-back resources including implementation and training strategies.

What Is Teach-Back?

  • A way to make sure you—the healthcare provider—explained information clearly; it is not a test or quiz of patients
  • Asking a patient (or family member) to explain—in their own words—what they need to know or do, in a caring way
  • A way to check for understanding and, if needed, re-explain and check again
  • A research-based health literacy intervention that promotes adherence, quality and patient safety

This WebEx will be presented by Great Plains QIN team members, Sally May, RN, BSN, CH-GCN and Lisa Thorp, BSN, RN, CDE.

All healthcare providers, including physicians, nurses, certified nursing assistants, medical assistants, physical therapists, occupational therapists and anyone interested in learning more are invited to join.
