team of doctors, nurses and patients

We all want and expect a better, smarter and healthier healthcare system. In order to achieve this, a large national initiative is underway to improve the payment structure by incentivizing quality and value over volume. This movement will impact the entire healthcare community across the nation. These payment reforms are expected to demonstrate better outcomes and lower costs for patients.

The Dept. of Health and Human Services recently established a Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network (LAN) as a collective network of public and private stakeholders. The goal of the LAN is to align private payers and CMS in moving payment from traditional Fee-For-Service (FFS) methods to FFS-linked to quality and Alternative Payment Models (APMs).

Great Plains Quality Innovation Network recently committed to participating as a Health Care Payment LAN partner along with many other stakeholders, including providers, patients, employers, consumers, state/federal agencies, health plans and others. For the complete list, visit the HCP LAN Web site. As a LAN Partner, Great Plains QIN has committed to capturing best practices, sharing information, participating in learning opportunities and applying lessons learned.

LAN Mission: To accelerate the healthcare system’s transition to APMs by combining the innovation, power and reach of the private and public sectors
LAN Goals: To accelerate the healthcare system’s adoption of effective APMs to reach 30 percent of all payments by 2016 and 50 percent by 2018

By sharing information about successful models and encouraging private entities to share their best practices, the LAN will reduce barriers and accelerate adoption of alternative payment models.

We are excited to be part of the initiative and will continue to be an active partner in efforts to promote value-based care. We encourage your support and involvement. You can access additional details via the HCP LAN Web site. The site includes a wealth of information, including history and news, partners, learning opportunities, support groups, FAQ, contact information and available resources.
