The 2018 Legendary Nurse Awards banquet was held on October 25 in Bismarck, ND, honoring nurses from across the state of North Dakota in several categories. Of the 50 nominations submitted, Great Plains QIN Quality Improvement Specialist, Jean Roland, RN, BSN, CPHQ, received an award in the “Evidence-Based Practice” category. This category honors nurses who exemplify excellence in the promotion and utilization of evidence-based practice principles in the pursuit of clinical excellence.

Jean has demonstrated continued excellence in the promotion and utilization of evidence-based practice principles in the pursuit of clinical excellence. A key aspect of her work has been providing coaching to partners and stakeholders on the importance and implementation of evidence-based best practices. She has led initiatives with hospitals to reduce healthcare-associated infections by implementing evidence-based best practices including Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP), IHI central line bundle for central line associated bloodstream infections, CDC/IDSA guidelines to prevent catheter associated urinary tract infections, CDC and HIIN toolkits to prevent surgical site infections and CDC guidelines to reduce C. difficile infections.
Her passion and skill assisting others to utilize best practices to improve clinical outcomes has improved lives across the state of North Dakota.
The Legendary Nurse Awards began in 2015 as a way to honor exemplary nurses across the Legendary State of North Dakota. With over 18,000 nurses statewide, the North Dakota Center for Nursing recognizes that nurses form the backbone of the healthcare system and are a vital part of many different settings.
