Great Plains Quality Innovation Network has developed a Quality Measure Video Series designed for those involved with MDS coding, quality improvement and leadership team members.
The nursing home quality measures come from resident assessment data that nursing homes collect and submit to CMS. This data demonstrates quality of care and is shared with the public via the CMS Care Compare website. The data also affect payments. It is essential that facilities complete their data submission with accuracy to have the best possible outcomes reported. The Quality Measure Video Series will help individuals completing the resident assessments understand the data being used to build the quality measures.
Each video is approximately 20 minutes and includes the recording, slide deck, transcript and tip sheet.
- Residents Whose Need for Help With Activities of Daily Living Increased
- Residents Whose Ability To Move Independently Worsened
- High Risk Pressure Ulcer
- Urinary Tract Infection
- Catheter Left in Bladder
- Antipsychotic Medication
- Long Stay Falls with Major Injury
- Pneumococcal Vaccination
- Influenza Vaccination
- Nursing Home CASPER QM Report
** New videos and tip sheets are added each month.
The trainings are developed and presented by Michelle Lauckner, RN, BA, RAC-CT, IP-BC, QCP; Great Plains QIN Quality Improvement Advisor. [Lauckner is pictured].
“Michelle is a valued resource and plays an instrumental role in assisting nursing home teams on how to better understand and report their quality measure data. Throughout the videos, she offers expertise, knowledge and examples of reporting issues and solutions. We believe this guidance can help each nursing home attain the best outcomes for their residents and facility. We encourage nursing home team members to take the time to view the videos, share with your colleagues and access the tools and resources provided. Also, reach out to a member of our quality improvement team for additional assistance or to answer questions,” shared Keri McDermott, Great Plains QIN Communications Director.
The Quality Measure Video Series has been promoted and shared nationally; since the series launched in March 2021, the training videos have been accessed over150 times by healthcare providers in ten states.
→ CMS Quality Measures Guide
Quality measures are powerful tools for advancing quality in the healthcare system. CMS programs, including the Quality Innovation Network – Quality Improvement Organization program, implement a wide range of measures that serve quality priorities, such as promoting healthcare that is effective, safe, efficient, patient-centered, equitable and timely.
CMS recently released a Quality Measures Guide which explains the complexity of the quality measure development process, which is designed to ensure quality measures are appropriate for use as well as the role quality measures play in helping the U.S. healthcare system improve the quality of care and reduce costs.
To ensure that quality goals are capable of promoting these benefits, quality measures undergo a rigorous, time-intensive process that helps align them with the critical evaluation criteria. The user-friendly CMS Guide offers insight as to how the quality measures align with CMS priorities, the types of quality measures and how they are identified, implemented and evaluated.
