Are you ready to help “Knock Out the Flu” in your community? It’s that time of year; the time when everyone is sick. Yes, the flu bug is back again and hitting our communities hard!
What can we do as healthcare providers in “round two” of flu season?
Give Strong Recommendations
What you say matters as much as how you say it. Research shows a physician’s recommendation is the most important reason a patient accepts an immunization. Opening the conversation with a presumptive approach rather than a participatory approach (e.g., saying “We need to give you a flu shot,” rather than asking, “What do you think about getting the flu shot”) can dramatically decrease resistance to vaccine recommendations.
Vaccinations: A Life-Long Priority
We know that vaccines are recommended in all stages of life; helping communicate that message to your patients is important.
Unfortunately, influenza and pneumonia remain the 8th leading causes of death in the United States. And, immunization rates among adults, particularly racial/ethnic minority populations and those with reduced access to healthcare resources, show significant opportunity for improvement.
With your help, we can take big steps to reduce the number of individuals who are hospitalized or die from vaccine preventable diseases.
Included below are posters to display within your organization to help remind your patients to get vaccinated. You can download these posters and display in your offices to remind patients and your team that it is not too late to get a flu vaccination.
