Thanks to the care team at Bryan Health in Lincoln, Nebraska and efforts of the Lancaster County Crusade Against Cancer, Lon Sorenson is now cancer free.
The Lancaster County Crusade Against Cancer is a partnership of community agencies, organizations and volunteers who work together to increase colon cancer awareness in the community and promote compliance with screening recommendations. They provide free colon cancer screening (FOBT) stool tests at local pharmacies for individuals to complete at home.
Lon had non-cancerous polyps removed years ago. He knew he was overdue for a colonoscopy, but felt healthy and well so never scheduled one. He came across the FOBT test in his local pharmacy and it was the nudge he needed. After submitting the sample, Lon received the results that showed he had blood in his stool and needed a follow-up colonoscopy. The colonoscopy showed cancerous cells. Lon then met with a nurse navigator from Bryan Health to schedule the surgery that would save his life.
