Checking blood pressure

Target:BP is a national initiative launched by the American Heart Association and the American Medical Association in 2017 in response to the high prevalence of uncontrolled blood pressure (BP) in the United States.

The initiative provides support to health care organizations and teams with no cost to improve the quality of care for adults with high blood pressure by providing education and resources and recognizing organizations committed to prioritizing and reporting their rate of BP control. In 2022, Target:BP recognized 1309 organizations serving 8.4 million patients with hypertension for prioritizing BP control. Through this initiative to date, significant improvement has been shown at participating organizations.

Evidence-based protocol guides the initiative. The focus areas are: measuring blood pressure accurately, acting rapidly with a clear treatment plan, and partnering with patients to enable ongoing self-management.
