pain

The Geriatric Pain website is dedicated to providing quality resources and tools for pain care for older adults.  Here, clinicians, patients, and family caregivers have access to free evidence-based pain assessment tools, pain management strategies, and resources to help identify and manage pain in older adults.

The site was initially created to support nurses, staff and administrators in long-term care environments with free, evidence-based pain assessment tools, pain management strategies and resources to help identify and manage pain in older adults.

The website has since proven to be useful in other geriatric care settings and interdisciplinary teams. It is user-friendly and easy to access and organized into categories of emphasis, including pain assessment, pain management, education, quality improvement, and a new section on information for caregivers and patients. The site’s resources are aimed at improving pain outcomes for residents, changing organizational standards for pain outcomes, and saving time identifying and evaluating quality tools.

A newly added section provides information specifically developed for informal caregivers and includes resources for family members, friends, or other non-paid individuals who support older adults as they age. The website is an essential resource for anyone caring for older adults, providing valuable information on pain management strategies, tools, and resources. The website’s evidence-based approach ensures that the information provided is reliable and trustworthy.

Many of the tools available on the Geriatric Pain website are for nurses, staff, and administrators in nursing homes and long-term care facilities. However, the site is applicable to other geriatric care settings and can be used by interdisciplinary teams to improve pain outcomes for older adults.
