The National Strategy for Quality Improvement in Health Care, commonly referred to as the National Quality Strategy or NQS, is the first-ever national effort to improve health and healthcare quality. The fundamental objective of the NQS, which was initially published in March 2011 and is updated annually, is to promote quality healthcare and improved health for patients, families and communities.

On the five-year anniversary of the National Quality Strategy, the Great Plains Quality Innovation Network, an organization whose vision is to make healthcare in the region the best in the nation, continues to support the NQS as a catalyst and compass guiding a nationwide focus on quality improvement efforts and driving the health and healthcare system towards quality care for all Americans.

“Our work is grounded in foundational principles that align with the goals of the National Quality Strategy. We are working to eliminate disparities, strengthen the infrastructure and data systems, enable local innovation and foster learning.  The real value of the NQS is that key partners (including family members, consumers, government entities, payers, providers, employers, healthcare providers and communities) are working in alignment with shared goals under the NQS.” stated Ryan Sailor, IDIQ Director for the Great Plains Quality Innovation Network.

The National Quality Strategy sets priorities for federal and state quality initiatives that touch millions of Americans and have led to improved quality and cost savings. Stakeholders are working together in new and innovative ways to make the National Quality Strategy part of their day-to-day efforts to make health and healthcare better and more affordable for people and communities.

Sailor added, “Working together, under the same overarching goal to improve care, improve health outcomes and reduce costs, is a monumental shift in our approach. Our team is committed to quality improvement and excited to be part of a national, unified movement for change and improvement.”
