During this Webinar, Dr. Carson will provide an overview of the vaccine safety surveillance systems used in the United States and examples of how the systems work together to identify and assess potential safety signals. Dr. Paul Carson will also discuss the strengths and limitations of each system. Finally, Dr. Carson will also provide historical examples of how the systems have identified vaccine safety concerns. Attendees should leave the presentation with a greater understanding of the robust, multi-layered approach taken in the United States to assure vaccine safety and more equipped to answer questions about vaccine safety.
Dr. Carson is a physician who specializes in infectious diseases and has over 25 years of clinical experience. Before coming to North Dakota State University (NDSU) in 2013, he held several roles at Sanford Health, including Chair of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Director of Clinical Research, and Chief Quality Officer. He is currently a Professor at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences and a Professor of Practice at the NDSU Department of Public Health, where he serves as the Medical Director for the Center for Immunization Research and Education, also known as CIRE.
