High-risk medicines have been proven to be safe and effective. However, these medicines can cause serious injury if a mistake happens while taking them. It is very important for individuals to know about these high-risk medications and take them exactly as directed.
The Great Plains QIN team recently developed the “High-Risk Medicines: Facts for Consumers” tool which aims to empower and educate individuals about the potential dangers associated with certain medications. This tool can help individuals better understand high-risk medications, their inherent risks and how they may affect one’s well-being. As a care provider community, we can utilize this tool to help patients and family members understand the side effects of certain medications, address concerns and answer questions.
Access the High-Risk Medicines Tool to help individuals gain a deeper understanding of the potential risks posed by medications, such as opioids, blood thinners and diabetes medicines, when used or distributed incorrectly.
Visit the Consumer Medication Safety Web site for a comprehensive list of high-alert medications and safety tips.
