An area of focus is the reduction in the use of unnecessary antipsychotic medication in dementia residents. Visit the Great Plains Quality Innovation Network site for more information.
To support improvement in care for dementia patients, CMS has committed to identifying ways to implement practices that enhance the quality of life for people with dementia, protect them from substandard care and promote goal-directed, person-centered care for every nursing home resident. The Partnership to Improve Dementia Care promotes a multi-dimensional approach that includes public reporting, state-based coalitions, research, training and revised surveyor guidance.
