As efforts continue to increase staff vaccination rates in long term care, the American Health Care Association (AHCA)/National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) has created new materials to help support long-term care providers.
Three new handouts cover common questions raised by staff members when considering whether to get the COVID-19 vaccine:
- Can the COVID-19 vaccine impact fertility?
- Should individuals who already had COVID-19 get the vaccine?
- 5 Facts about the Delta variant
The handouts are ideal to share with employees in one-on-one conversations or staff meetings to help individuals make an informed decision. However, they may also be shared online, as they link to credible research and evidence to support the facts provided.
A fourth handout offers employer mandate best practices for providers who are considering implementing such a policy. It covers how to roll out the policy to staff, encourages ongoing educational efforts, and offers communication strategies. AHCA/NCAL also advises providers to break down possible barriers for staff in accessing the vaccine, know the legal parameters of mandates, and manage personnel records appropriately.
The resources are part of AHCA/NCAL’s #GetVaccinated campaign, which aims to encourage long-term care residents, families and staff to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The campaign is funded in part by a cooperative agreement with the CDC.
