The Role of Data in the Opioid Crisis; WebEx Collaborative Opportunity
Thursday, October 11, 2018
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (CST)
Every day, more than 115 people in the United States die after overdosing on opioids.1 The misuse of and addiction to opioids—including prescription pain relievers, heroin and synthetic opioids, such as fentanyl, is a serious national crisis that affects public health as well as social and economic welfare. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that the total “economic burden” of prescription opioid misuse alone in the United States is $78.5 billion a year, including the costs of healthcare, lost productivity, addiction treatment, and criminal justice involvement.2
The WebEx objectives include:
- Explore existing data resources to help understand opioid prescription practices and drive improvements
- Identify best-practice methods for utilizing data to decrease inappropriate opioid prescriptions
- Collaborate and network with clinicians and leaders across the care continuum to reduce opioid misuse
The WebEx Agenda includes the following:
- Welcome from CQISCO CMS Leadership
- Sources of Opioid Data
