national nurses

This week for National Nurses Month, the theme is Recognition. We are all indebted to nurses for their unwavering commitment to patients, their communities and our health care systems. Honor the work of nurses who lead, excel, and innovate, not only in our health care systems, but also in our communities which makes them vital to transforming the future of health care. To learn more about what you can do for the 2nd week of recognition, visit Week Two of National Nurses Month. #ANANursesMonth

National Skilled Nursing Care Week | May 8 – 14, 2022

This week is also National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW) and the theme is “Creating and Nurturing Connections”. Skilled nursing care centers and their staff provide an incredible and steadfast commitment to a high-level of quality care and quality of life for their residents. This has never been more evident than these last few years during the pandemic. In addition to protecting and caring for their residents around the clock during a time of limited visitation and social distancing, staff stepped in and served as family members and friends to ensure residents had the essential social connections they needed. We recognize, support and applaud you. Thanks for all you do to care for our community members and loved ones.

“Here’s a shout out to my fellow nursing colleagues, family members, and lifelong friends who are part of the most ‘heroic’ of professions. I was a 1983 Presentation College Graduate that wore a white uniform and a lovely white nursing hat back in the day! If the truth be told, I loved wearing the white uniform; however, not so much the hat and was glad when the hat was phased out. A lot has changed in the past 39 years but compassion, dedication and caring remain. I am proud to be in this profession,”  Lori Hintz, RN, CDP, CAADCT; Great Plains QIN Quality Improvement Advisor.

Great Plains QIN would also like to recognize our fellow nurses. Thank you for all that you do!

Ways YOU can recognize your fellow nurses this week:

Recognition Tip #1
Raise visibility of the critical work nurses do and foster greater understanding of the diversity of the nursing profession by honoring exemplary nurses and engaging with your community.

Recognition Tip #2
Post of social media, recognizing your fellow nurses. Visit Notes of Gratitude and add your tribute to our nurses month recognition wall. This could be a nurse who made an impact either in your care or that of a loved one, a thank you to a colleague, family or friend, or a general acknowledgement to all nurses for all they do.

Recognition Tip #3
The American Nurses Association recognizes May 11th as Nurses Day of Remembrance. On that day, it’s a time to reflect on and honor the memory of nurses we have lost this past year, especially those nurses and other health care workers who have tragically died during the COVID-19 pandemic. Click here to submit their name to the Nurses Fallen to the tribute wall.

On behalf of the Great Plains QIN team, Happy National Nurses Month! We thank you!
