Rural adults are more likely than urban counterparts to have a larger range of chronic conditions³ and extensive disparities in health, such as greater rates of death, pain and suffering and reduced life expectancy². The increasing need for palliative care services coupled with reduced access to palliative care services, health disparities, and presence of increased chronic conditions by rural residents create an urgent need to further quantify the current palliative care services available throughout the states of North and South Dakota.
We are fortunate to have robust and accomplished specialty palliative care programs, as well as primary care programs, in the Dakotas. During this session, program leaders will highlight the definitions and benefits of palliative care, offer practical application tips and identify a multitude of resources and training opportunities for individuals and professionals.
