The Great Plains Quality Innovation Network (QIN) remains in a transition phase as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) prepares to roll out a new set of priority healthcare aims for the Quality Improvement Organization program.
As a recipient of the CMS Transition Award, Great Plains QIN content experts have been actively engaging with healthcare professionals, providers and stakeholders to identify opportunities for quality improvement initiatives, community collaboration and data sharing across the region. The overall focus on the triple aim to improve care, lower costs and improve health outcomes will continue with an added emphasis on reducing provider burden.
“The five new aims proposed by CMS will certainly expand the progress we’ve seen in our region over the past five years,” stated Ryan Sailor, MBA, President and Chief Operating Officer. “This transition phase has provided us with the opportunity to develop a strategic approach for collaboration, data collection and resource identification to further advance these efforts and ultimately impact large-scale transformation.”

1. Improve Behavioral Health Outcomes, focusing on Decreased Opioid Misuse
2. Increase Patient Safety
3. Increase Chronic Disease Self-Management
4. Increase Quality of Care Transitions
5. Improve Nursing Home Quality
Great Plains QIN is among the QIN-QIO programs across the nation waiting on the new CMS award to initiate the full effort for healthcare quality improvement in these key areas.
Sailor added, “The delay of the award has been difficult. Our staff have been engaging our partners and preparing to get back to the work at hand. We have a clear vision to make health in our region the best in the nation and we are ready to keep moving toward that goal.”
