Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the Department of Defense (DoD) have developed TeamSTEPPS, a teamwork system that offers a powerful solution to improving collaboration and communication. Teamwork has been found to be one of the key patient safety initiatives that can transform the culture within an organization. Patient safety experts agree that communication and other teamwork skills are essential to the delivery of quality health care and to preventing and mitigating medical errors and patient harm.
All hospital staff interested in better understanding this teamwork system and improving collaboration and communication are invited and encouraged to participate.
Upon completion of the WebEx, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the TeamSTEPPS framework and key principles
- Describe the components of a Multi-Team System (MTS)
- Describe four communication tools and strategies
- Summarize barriers to teamwork; tools and strategies to overcome teamwork barriers; and potential outcomes
