Nurse cares for a elderly patient lying in bed in hospital.

Dakota Geriatrics, in partnership with Service Providers for Seniors, recently announced the launch of Age Friendly Health Care: Webinar Series. A series of 5 one-hour long tele mentoring sessions to be held every second Monday of the month at 4 p.m. CT, starting February 8 until June 14, 2021, will be facilitated by Dr. Donald Jurivich, Professor and Chair, Department of Geriatrics, University of North Dakota.

The American population continues to mature with an impending “aging tsunami” just a few years away. Geriatric problems are common but often under recognized in health care. Over 80% of older adults with memory impairment go unrecognized by their primary care providers. Nearly two thirds of older adults at risk for falls have no mitigating health care plan.

To address this gap, Age Friendly Healthcare adopts evidence-based practice through the Geriatric 4Ms: What Matters, Mentation, Medication and Mobility. This webinar series will address the topics of each of the 4Ms and focus on how healthcare professionals can better assess and manage the older adult patient.

Continuing Education credits will be provided for attendees following live events, and submission of mandatory evaluation form as approved by North Dakota Board of Nursing, North Dakota Board of Social Worker Examiners, North Dakota State Board of Occupational Therapist Practice and North Dakota Board of Physical Therapy.
